Who can attend?

Ages 14 to 29.  

Are you under 18? 

Your parent or guardian will receive a copy of the consent form via the email (which they and you can sign online), it will be sent to the emails you provided during registration. Make sure your parent has filled out this consent form or you can't participate. Email it to: hello@6social.org or bring it to you at registration.  Alternatively, ensure your parent or guardian is with you when you register on Saturday so they can sign the form in person.  

What is included in the registration?  

We will have food! 2 snacks and Lunch on Saturday, plus a brunch on Sunday. We will also some swag, prizes and cool stuff. 

What should I bring?

Bring your electronic devices like smartphones, tablets and phones. We will also have some devices on site people can use.  We will have beverages, snacks and lunch but if you have preferences please pack your own.  There is no access to a kitchen onsite.

What are the prizes?

There will be a variety of prizes given to teams based on the showcase judging and prizes through the 1.5 days.  Check out the website for the updates on prizing everyday! Currently there is up to $5,000 in prizes available.

Who are the mentors?

We will have a variety of mentors from the community, Learning Through The Arts, and tech specialists who will drop in throughout to help the teams & give feedback. If you would like to volunteer to be a mentor, please fill out this form.

Do I need to come with an idea?

No, please come and be ready to join a team and help create some awesome solutions and learn about new technology.

Can anyone attend the Showcase event?

The event and showcase is for registered participants only, however we will be live streaming the event.

Who will judge the Showcase?

A variety of experts in the field of technology, arts and education and a celebrity judge.

What issues do you care about?

Start researching, thinking and talking as we will be brainstorming together!  

Do I need a ticket?

Nope, this your confirmation.  We will have your name at the door along with your registration package. 

What is the schedule?

Saturday Registration: 9:30 am, Kick Off: 10 am, wrap up by 6 pm. 

Sunday registration: 9 am, Kick off: 9:30, wrap up by 1 pm.

What kind of ideas are we building?

Use your imagination! The challenge is to come up with creative ways to use technology to solve problems that you care about. This event is all about ideas, think of it like an IdeaLab.  You do not have to come with any specific idea in mind, just be ready to be creative, work in a team environment and have fun! 

What is the judging criteria?

We're looking for the most creative, innovative and exciting ideas! What matters is that you are passionate about solving an issue that matters to you, while using and leveraging technology and social media.

What tools will we be using?

We are going to showcase 6 technology tools and show you how to make create content for social media! There is a cool app building tool and you don't even need to know code. Check out the website for more information. 

What happens after the event?

Lots! We will be launching an online platform, where you can connect, learn and keep growing your idea and keep connected with participants and mentors.  With the assistance of our partners, we will be looking at how we can also assist in developing your ideas. The top ideas could be featured at CONNECT 2016, Canada's Learning & Technology Conference. Just think your tools could effect tens of thousands of people! 

Get ready to have fun! 

Yes we will have celebrity dropins & expert panels but this is about hands on learning, putting the technology into your hands and showing you how to leverage social media.

What if I can't come?

This is a free event and there will be a waiting list.  Please do your best to make it, if not, please contact us right away, as we have a waiting list already for the 20-29 age group.  Your ticket is not transferrable.    

Location, Transportation and Parking 


The Royal Conservatory building is called the TELUS Centre for Performance and Learning, located at 273 Bloor Street West.

We are on the south side of Bloor Street, between the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) and Varsity Stadium. We are only a block southwest of Yorkville, half a block west of Avenue Road, and five blocks east of the Annex area.

Please come through the glass doors, not the front doors.

Driving directions from Hwy 401: from Highway 401, take Avenue Road south to Bloor Street, OR take the Don Valley Parkway south to the Bloor Street ramp and proceed west along Bloor to Avenue Road.

Driving directions from Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW): from the QEW, follow the Gardiner Expressway and exit at Spadina Avenue. Proceed north on Spadina Avenue to Bloor Street. At Bloor Street, turn right (east) and look for The Royal Conservatory’s TELUS Centre for Performance and Learning on the right side, just after the lights at Bedford Road.


The following parking lots are within walking distance of The Royal Conservatory’s TELUS Centre for Performance and Learning:

9 Bedford Road, north of Bloor Street, west of Avenue Road
37 Yorkville Ave, north of Bloor Street, east of Bay Street
148 Cumberland Street, north of Bloor Street, east of Avenue Road
Yorkville Avenue and Bellair Street on the northwest corner

Transit - TTC Subway

Take the TTC subway to St. George Station (Bloor-Danforth line). You will be facing south toward Varsity Stadium when you exit the subway. Cross the street to the south side of Bloor Street, turn left, walk east only a few steps, and you will be at the front door of the TELUS Centre for Performance and Learning.

Take the TTC subway to Museum station (Yonge-University line). You will be facing north and the ROM will be on your left when you exit the subway, walk half a block north to Bloor Street and Avenue Road, and turn left and walk one block west (we are next door to the ROM).
